We have just crossed through the Summer Solstice portal. Here in Oregon it was windy, cold and rainy, quite suddenly, for a couple of days, right when the sun was at his zenith. A friend of mine, with whom I spent the weekend doing ceremony in the forest, said that in some stories the sun is the child of the rain god and the earth goddess. So, we smiled to ourselves thinking that perhaps for us this Solstice was about honoring the ancestors, while keeping cozy by a campfire. Last week in the Body & Soul Sanctuary, we activated the seeds of our souls with the warming and charging energy of the sun, and did a powerful practice of naming our fears, not to shame them, but to honor them for protecting us, while simultaneously giving them over to something greater, that greater force of nature that can carry the burden and lighten us a little, so we can step closer to the actualization of our dreams with less inhibition. We placed our fears into a bunch of brilliant purple flowers which had dried in my home over the winter, still beautiful, but ready for a greater purpose, and a greater home: the river (See photo above of the river offering). And now, in the wake of the river's soft acceptance, I find myself listening deeper - not just to the voices of the seasons, but to the pacing of my own nervous system's call and response with my business. In that spirit, I’ll be shifting to a biweekly rhythm with these blog posts. Letting the rhythm guide the in-breath and the-outbreath, the gestation and the offering. Thank you for being here with me—on this spiral, this path, this breath. Please enjoy this short video, where I share more about the Summer Solstice ritual, and what it means to use fear as a sacred offering—not something to overcome, but something to return to the Great River.
