As the Body & Soul Sanctuary begins its journey around the regenerative wheel, we begin with inviting safety. As I learned in Organic Intelligence®, The nervous system has two biological agendas: Safety & Growth. This ties in with Developmental Psychology as well, and emphasizes... that a state of safety, nourishment, and protection needs to be established for young creatures in order for them to later find pleasure in gaining independence and agency. Our modern American culture tends to emphasize the latter, misunderstanding its roots in the former. If you're into research and storytelling like me, you may enjoy the work of Professor Darcia Narvaez Ph.D., a developmental anthropologist who has done extensive research on how early life experiences and societal culture interact to influence moral character and well-being. She speaks a lot about "nestedness", a core concept in my work as well, and which fits with any regenerative or systems-based model. Check her work out if you'd like to learn how mammals across species require this way of being nurtured into a healthy life: The Evolved Nest: Nature's Way of Raising Children and Creating Connected Communities Note: I also have an older Youtube video on Nestedness, which can be found here: Nested Resources: From Cell to Cosmos The key takeaway is that we are surrounded by resources from the tiniest cell to the vast cosmos, and that a healthy culture is one in which new life is centered in the midst of this "nest" of resources, being nourished by the many layers of care that life was designed to bestow upon a newborn. When we live in a time and a culture in which this way of being has been lost, we need to re-establish safety not just intellectually, but somatically. This is where my work comes in. I'll be sharing a series of videos on establishing nervous system safety in the coming weeks, in hopes that it can ground you through whatever stressors you may be facing from the most intimate to the cultural or global. Today we start with a simple practice to settle the physiology: Orientation. See the video below to learn about this simple tool. Note: I have room for two private Somatic Alchemy coaching sessions this month for new clients. If you'd like to try a free, 20-minute call to get a taste of nervous system nourishment and discuss the opportunity to take one of these spots, schedule here: Discover Your Portal to Healing Comments are closed.
